My name is Daryl (Mr. Social Worker) Cognito I have been a practicing social worker in Canada (Calgary) for the past 11 years and working in the human service field for 21 years. I am also working towards my BSW at the University of Manitoba.
I think in order to get better we need to reflect on what we do. We also need to be willing to explore new ideas, and put some of our thoughts out there for feedback. A blog is the best way for me to do this. Plus, a blog is a searchable database so even if no one is reading I’ll have record.
In Alberta, in order to call yourself a social worker you have to be Registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers. We know that there are a lot of people out there working on improving people’s quality of live, fighting for policy change and battling the inequities of our so called democratic system. Social Work might be a title, it might be a job description, but it is a lifestyle and it’s a calling. So RSW or not you’re welcome to join in the discussion.
